Sonja Mapes earned her B.S. in mathematics at Notre Dame in 2002, and her Ph.D. in mathematics at Columbia University in 2009. After doing a postdoc at Duke University she returned to Notre Dame in 2011. Currently she is an Assistant Professor of the Practice and the Director of Undergraduate Studies in the mathematics department at Notre Dame. Her favorite courses to teach are all variants of linear algebra, and a course for non math majors on symmetries and group theory. Her research is in commutative algebra and combinatorics.
