The Literacy & Outreach Services department of the St. Joseph County Library provides a variety of services and resources that promote access to learning opportunities. Literacy & Outreach Services serves people who need assistance in utilizing the library due to language barriers, physical or mental disabilities. The department also provides a variety of tutoring programs and resource materials for people of all ages.
The Riverbend Community Math Center participates in the library's annual Science Alive program.
In September 2020, we partnered with the library to present a virtual session for parents on supporting the math learning of their students during the pandemic.
In April 2010, we participated in the library's One Book program by teaching children to fold origami mockingbirds (relating to the chosen book To Kill a Mockingbird).
During the 2006-2007 and 2007-2008 academic years, the Riverbend Community Math Center collaborated with the Literacy & Outreach Services Department at the main library branch in downtown South Bend by providing tutors on a weekly basis for their Math Homework Clinic. The library provided us with space for our Saturday morning Math Circle sessions and our Saturday afternoon Family Math activities. Literacy & Outreach Services jointly sponsored our Summer Math Academy in 2007.
