We engaged 70 Notre Dame freshmen in the "Global Air Conditioners" activity, during which they estimated the amount of carbon dioxide absorbed by a tree over its lifetime. Participants learned about the carbon cycle, a method for indirect measurement of tree heights, and some basic unit conversion concepts.
